Every IACP is a success, but having attended more than 20 IACP events, we can confidently say this year’s event was one of the best. And we have you thank for it. Overall, the event drew in more than 14,000 public safety professionals, which for us meant we met with a lot of new faces and a lot of friendly and familiar faces.

The familiar faces, our existing customers, continue to honor us with their trust and commitment to top quality evidence capture and management integrity, security and useability. And new prospects, reaffirm our dedication to developing an ecosystem of solutions designed specifically for law enforcement – an ecosystem that provides an officer with everything they need to be patrol-ready.

IACP Recap in text and photos

Safe-Fleet-IACP-2023-2

At this year’s IACP event, we showcased our new Safe Fleet FOCUS in-car video system with ALPR to attendees from around the world who are in search of solutions to help them improve their operational efficiency and get more done with greater accuracy. The FOCUS in-car system with ALPR does just that! The system’s value in helping law enforcement create safer communities is evident to some of the world’s largest agencies who are currently deploying it. We’ll cover this in more detail later in the post.

We had a fully outfitted patrol car on display, featuring our FOCUS ecosystem products including body worn cameras, and an in-car video system with ALPR. Attendees appreciated the hands-on experience gained by interacting with each of our ecosystem products for a glimpse into how a fully integrated system of officer, vehicle and evidence capture systems would perform in the field.

Evidence collected on the tradeshow floor was immediately available for viewing and management in our video and evidence management system, Nexus, which was displayed on a touchscreen monitor.

“Protection of data is of critical importance in law enforcement,” says Mark Griffin, VP of Law Enforcement, Safe Fleet. “Agencies were keenly interested in system security and the benefits of Nexus on that front. We were able to demonstrate two-factor authentication and single-sign on in the vehicle, which is new to many in the industry.”

“Visitors to our booth immersed themselves in the full ecosystem experience, mentally matching our systems against their current workflows and SOPs, and witnessing the true synchronicity a fully integrated system delivers – all systems including the officer working together in a seamless flow of productivity and efficiency,” adds Griffin.

AI is the force multiplier we’ve been waiting for – doing more and increasing accuracy

Our FOCUS in-car system with ALPR, mentioned above, drew the most attention in our booth. It features AI-enhanced Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR), which is changing the law enforcement landscape by increasing an officer’s ability to do more, with boosted accuracy.

The Safe Fleet in-car video system natively supports AI-enhanced ALPR, which enables a higher level of data collection/matching accuracy over typical IR camera solutions. The system also features a smaller footprint than traditional ALPR hardware, saving precious space in the vehicle. It requires no exterior vehicle modification and operates with the in-car video system, leveraging the existing interactive dash touch screen, and simplifying overall operation. ALPR continually runs in the background of the in-car video system. Officers can perform duties as usual; the ALPR system will alert them when a vehicle of interest is identified. This further benefits the officer by saving them from unnecessary distraction.

“Our AI-enabled ALPR platform was just rolled out this year and we’ve already successfully deployed to some of the largest law enforcement agencies in the United States” adds Griffin. “Displaying this solution at IAPC showed officers and command staff how the system drives value throughout the entire agency.”

Where we are today and where we are going

Two main themes were evident in our IACP 2023 booth:

The Law Enforcement Internet of Things:

Safe Fleet is developing an ‘Internet of Things’ approach to our law enforcement market offerings. In-the-field and back-office safety, efficiency and productivity are enhanced with connectivity. That’s why we are focusing on the Connected Officer, Connected Vehicle and Connected Back-Office.

  1. We help law enforcement officers get patrol ready with products and services designed to improve their safety and the safety of the communities they serve.
  2. We provide vehicle upfitting services as well as in-car evidence collection systems to further enhance an officer’s ability to serve and protect.
  3. And we develop secure and efficient back-office systems that provide evidence management, chain-of-custody, evidence sharing, governance and case investigation insight.

We have our eyes on these ‘Internet of Things’ prizes for you in 2024:

  • Live video streaming
  • Holster, two-way and multiple evidence capture activation
  • All camera activation from one device

The Connected, Smart City:

We’re also focusing on the Connected, Smart City and helping to drive safety forward as a whole, coast to coast. Safe Fleet is uniquely positioned with evidence capture solutions that are deployed on fleets of all shapes and sizes within every large metropolitan city in North America.  Each of these fleets collect evidence and manage it on the same digital evidence management (DEM) platform. And even though each fleet is operationally different and uses different workflows, the captured evidence would be managed in the back end collectively and available for any agency to gain insight from.

“Ultimately, everything moves through law enforcement,” adds Griffin. “Whether we are talking a waste, light rail, transit, school bus or law enforcement vehicle that captures that evidence, it can be used to evaluate events or issues for further action. If further action is necessary, law enforcement is going to be involved, not just managing the event, but also potentially supplying evidence for prosecution or perhaps even policy change. So really, all this evidence needs to be collected, reviewed and managed together.”
